REO-ETS: Engine Test System

REO-ETS is an advanced PC based digital control and data acquisition system targetted specifically at engine test system engineers and users.

REO-ETS features the core REO (Realtime Environment for Operations) platform developed by KLaS to provide advanced realtime high-speed digital control and data acquisition, with single-platform integrated digital PIDs.

Using modern design techniques and state-of-the-art I/O hardware, REO-ETS offers a very flexible and highly efficient test system that is both easy to use and to configure.


Supported Dynamometer Types

REO-ETS offers interfaces to most dynamometer types, including:

  • REO-ETS(E) Eddy Current
  • REO-ETS(H) Hydraulic/Water
  • REO-ETS(M) AC/DC Machines
  • REO-ETS(P) Powder Brakes



Computer System

REO-ETS uses standard IBM based 19" Rack Mounting Industrial PC technology to provide a rugged and reliable hardware platfrom to ensure uptime of the test-bed facility. Multi-Monitor support is provided using dual-port graphics cards. Typically two 19" montiors are provided.


Full Digital PID High Speed Control

REO Realtime Environemnt for Operations offers a powerful real-time platform that REO-ETS runs on top of to provide full digital PID control and datalogging. REO-ETS does not require a stand-alone dyanamometer controller. REO-ETS provides all the features normally associated with a stand-alone controller, but in a fully integrated package.

By integrating the PID System into a single PC platform, REO-ETS is able to offer a very rugged system architecture that allows the engineer to take full control of the methods and designs used in control algorithms.


System Integrators

REO-ETS is available as just a software package if required, to allow system integrators to build and supply their own systems.

REO-ETS has been designed from the bottom up to fully support a wide range of equipment that is typically found on an engine test-bed. The following interfaces can be supplied as standard:

  • AVL 415 Smoke Meter
  • AVL403S Oil Consumption
  • AVL 733S Fuel Meter
  • AVL422 Blowby Meter
  • AVL KMA4000 Fuel Panel
  • HORIBA MEXA 7000 and 9000
  • ASAP3 ECU Tool Interface
  • High Speed CAN with J1934

With expandability built in, REO-ETS supports the following:

  • 256 Input Channel
  • 64 Output Channels
  • 24 High Speed Digital PIDs
  • Logging Rates up to 1kHz
  • A comprehensive Automatic Test Scheduler
  • Full support for transient test playback at up to 100Hz
  • Multi-Point Calibration on all channels
  • Multiple Alarm, Shutdown and Event Table for monitoring of all testbed parameters
  • Multiple 3-Dimensional Alarm Map Tables
  • A fully customisable programmable interface for creating simple or complex calculations and control algorithms
  • Control and datalogging using CAN and ASAP Interfaces.
